Let’s be honest: festivals aren’t the most predictable events in the world. In particular, they’re more vulnerable to weather’s temperament than most other kinds of events. But that’s not the only inconvenience that festivals can pose; they’re very crowded, which means that people can be a nuisance. Body odor and public restrooms/outhouses can also be a rather large problem in festivals, and it’s one that needs to be prepared for. Of course, these are all minor hazards compared to the great time you’ll have at a festival, but for the more heady individuals in the crowd, this festival survival guide can help to minimize the consequences.

As part of the festival survival guide, here are some things to prepare for:

Bringing Less = Paying More – At any festival, the prices for the most basic things (food, drinks, towes, etc.) will be heavily inflated. It’s how the individuals make money, and there’s no getting around it except to leave the festival. To avoid paying exorbitant prices, makes sure you bring a good amount of your own food and drinks, especially water. Leave some room for you to eat something made at the festival; there will usually be some good food. But make sure you bring your own snacks.

No personal space – Simply put, there is no personal space at a festival, especially if you’re travelling with a group of people. That’s part of the fun, but it’s something to be prepared for. You’ll have to save your “you time” for when you get back. If it gets too bad, though, bring a book. The campsites will be less crowded during the day.
Bad hygiene standards – Festivals don’t usually come with showers included. You’re going to stink. And so will everybody else around you. And the bathrooms are worse. It won’t kill you, but you might want to bring some wet wipes, anti-bacterial spray, and other cleaning materials.

Weather – Festivals are planned months in advance, and their dates aren’t planned for the weather. You should be. Check out the forecast, and if there’s even a slight chance of rain, you should brine a raincoat, boots, and covers for all of your things, including your tent. You might end up with a lot of things you don’t need, but that’s better than being caught in the rain.

The second part of the festival survival guide; here’s what you need to do:

Go cheap – your valuables aren’t safe enough to be left in a tent. Be safe, and travel light on the jewelry and expensive items. Keep all money and ID’s on your person.

Stay (somewhat) sober – There’s no shame in drinking, but you don’t want to be taken advantage of. Also, drugs can get you in trouble. There probably will be police.

Visit the Website – Festival websites are very helpful, and they usually provide of the activities, events, and facilities, as well as a map.

Be safe – The most important thing. Keep a charged phone on you at all times, and stay where there are crowds of people. This needs to be a fun time, and being safe can keep it that way.

We hope this festival survival guide helps. Just remember, the most important thing is to have a great time!

When Lady Gaga started performing in New York City’s underground rock scene, few could have predicted the international superstar she would become. In just three years, she’s gone from a little known bar performer to one of the best-known names in entertainment. Her rise has been meteoric, but it’s come purely from her own hard work, natural talent, and unerring persistence. She’s gone from renting “the cheapest apartment [she] could find” to selling over 10 million albums and 35 million records world-wide. Her brilliantly produced dance music and over-the-top, extremely creative personas has made her the most successful artist in a crop of rising starts, and she has already had a number of top singles that have rocked the world.

Lady Gaga started playing the piano at the age of four, and she’s been performing ever since. She dropped out of college to pursue a career in music, and has never looked back. She was signed by Def Jam soon after moving to New York, but the label dropped her after just three months. However, the connections she gained in that process spurred her current career on. She also began performing within New York’s gay community, which influenced much of her costume and design choices. By the time 2008 came, she had nearly finished developing her first album and was ready to release her debut single, “Just Dance.”

The rest is history. “Just Dance” became one of the biggest hits of the decade, and its impact reached across the world. Her success only grew from there. “Poker Face,” her second single, wasn’t nearly as successful on its own, but it established Lady Gaga as much more than a one-hit wonder. Her third single, “Paparazzi,” blew the door wide open. It made her and her previous singles even more popular, and introduced her as a fully fledged superstar. The Fame went on to sell over 10 million copies.

Her second album, The Fame Monster, was a smaller, more compact release than The Fame, and didn’t sell nearly as well as a result. However, it was also re-sold with The Fame as a double disc, and the two releases combined to sell over a million copies. The lead single, “Bad Romance,” became yet another enormous hit, further cementing her reputation as an international icon. She continues to be one of the world’s most famous entertainers, and is currently touring across the world.

Of course, the music is only half the package with Lady Gaga. She has become infamous for her costume and artistic choices, and she is nearly expected to shock the world with every new major performance. She’s also become the subject of a phenomenal number of tabloid stories, from romance rumors to tall tales of being transgendered. She has an incredible aptitude for keeping herself in the minds of the public; a talent that will keep her in headlines and stories for years to come.

Between her explosive musical talent and her iconic status, it’s a near-certainty that Lady Gaga will continue to be an international superstar for years to come.

There is no peer: if you haven’t been to a Glastonbury Festival, then you owe it to yourself to make the time to go this year. If you have been, then you know exactly what to expect, the Glastonbury Festival is back for next year, and it’s going to be as great as ever. The musical lineup is peerless, the activities are incredibly fun, and the atmosphere is completely unique. Glastonbury is the largest greenfield musical festival in the world – with a capacity of over 170,000 people, it brings together all of the biggest music fans and characters in the Western hemisphere. It is quite simply a can’t-miss event every year.
The Glastonbury Festival started in 1970, and it’s grown exponentially since then. In the beginning, it was a relatively small event, but it’s grown from an event for just over 1,000 people in 1970 to being a world-wide bonanza that attracted more than 150,000 people in 2007. Glastonbury Festival is going to be an incredible event, as it continues to grow and attract the biggest names in music, from U2 to Stevie Wonder. There’s an incredible variety of musical acts and genres, and the all-time greats are mixed in with the best up and coming bands.

Glastonbury Festival will be, as always, in Worthy Farm, Pilton. This year’s festival takes place from Wednesday, June 23rd to Sunday, June 27th. The festival is enormous, with different activities happening all day. The festival is for all ages; there are family caravans and kiosks full of products and activities you’ve never seen before. It’s not just a concert, it’s a 5-day bash that’s guaranteed to be one of the best times of your life. The sheer talent and variety on stage alone is more than worth the price of admission, and it only gets better from there.

The music is, of course, the main draw, and that’s no exception for Glastonbury Festival. Some of the biggest names in music history will be there, headlined by Stevie Wonder and U2. And of course, the hottest bands today will all have great sets, including Muse and The John Vistic Experience. There are dozens of bands and artists, and more will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Glastonbury Festival is an event than musicians and fans alike spend month preparing for.

One of the greatest parts of Glastonbury Festival is the general atmosphere. As there Website says, “the rules of society are bit different. A little freer.” That’s what Glastonbury is all about. It’s for everybody to let their hair down and rock out for nearly a whole week.

It’s one of the most fun parties in the world, and you owe it to yourself to experience it at least one more time. Glastonbury Festival looks like it’s going to be one of the best festivals ever, so make sure you’re in attendance from day one!

A sample of 2009…

Paramore is one of the top young rock bands in the world. Formed in 2004, they’ve been rising ever since. Paramore is headlined by lead vocalist (and keyboardist) Hayley Williams, who has become famous for her bright personality and attitude-heavy singing style. Between the breakneck pace of their music and their colorful, creative videos, they’ve gained a huge following, and their music has grown with every album. They’re a very young and passionate band, and there’s no reason to think that Paramore won’t continue to be successful well into this decade.

The Paramore band is made up of the aforementioned Hayley Williams, drummer Zac Farro, lead guitarist Josh Farro, rhythm guitarist Taylor York and bassist Jeremy Davis. The band has gone through a few member changes, most notably with Davis leaving and returning, but Williams and both Zac and Josh Farro have stayed consistent. They formed as a group with all of the members still very yound (Williams was only 15), and they saw immediate success with their first album, 2005’s All We Know is Falling. Despite their American Roots, they were dramatically more successful in the UK. This helped to establish them as an international pop-rock band, and laid the foundation for their future success.
There second album, Riot!, was released in 2007, and saw them established as true international stars. The album went gold (500,000 albums sold) in the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. It also went platinum in the US. Riot! was spearheaded by lead single “Misery Business,” which Williams called “the most honest thing I’ve ever written.” Their next album, Brand New Eyes, was released in 2009, and is their best-selling album to date. It is also their most critically successful, with many critics hailing it as their most compact and artistically inspired effort. Even their music videos have been very successful, earning praise for their colorful backgrounds and creative concepts.

Paramore is a band that is still on the rise, and we don’t know where their plateau is. As of right now, they are touring around the world on the strength of their last album. They’ll be in the UK this summer as one of the bands headline the 2010 Reading Festival, and they’ll be on tour until late September at the very least. As far as touring, they’re a very prolific band, and you can find all of their touring information at their Website, paramore.net.

The sky is the limit for Paramore, as their songs reveal a passion and skill that isn’t rivaled by very many bands. Singer Hayley Williams has established herself as one of the most recognizable voices and faces in rock music, which gives the band a firm place in mainstream music worldwide. It remains to be seen if this young band will continue to grow into the next decade, but one thing is for certain; in some capacity, Paramore is here to stay.

Their success might have seemed sudden to some casual to some viewers, but Bloc Party has been making music together since 1999. However, the band has been on hiatus since 2009. Various members of the band have expressed that this break is so that they can pursue their own individual projects. Lead guitarist Russell Lissack said that they album might start making music again in late 2010, but there has been no official announcement from the band.

Bloc Party began to form at the 1999 Reading Festival, when lead vocalist Kele Okereke and guitarist Russell Lissack were introduced with each other. They discovered that they had very similar musical ideas, and began recruiting new band members and making music. They didn’t see any major success, however, until 2003, when they began to have a couple of their songs heard by some major figures in the music industry. Their major breakthrough came when “She’s Hearing Voices” was played on BBC radio.

They released their first album, Silent Alarm, in 2005, and it was an instant success. The album received overwhelmingly positive reviews from the press. It also sold very well, going platinum in UK despite its independent label status. Silent Alarm is still hailed in many circles as their best album, and is still their best-selling effort.

Their next album, A Weekend in the City, was released in 2005, and saw similar success to the first album. However, the reviews for the album were somewhat less positive, and the album didn’t have the same kind of shock value that the first album did. This was less due to any lack of quality than the bands artistic change of direction. The album still sold very well, however, and was generally regarded as a success, as well as proof of the band’s staying power. Bloc Party has always been known for having very politicized and well-developed lyrics, and that trend continued on their second album.

Their third album, Intimacy, was released in 2008. That album further re-established themselves as an independent rock band. It again received generally positive reviews, but it didn’t have the commercial success of their other two albums. The album’s release was rushed, and caught a lot of people by suprise on its release. That didn’t stop it from being well-received, but it prevented the promotion from achieving its maximum effectiveness.

Bloc Party still has a legion of fans, and it’s very possible that we’ll see them become a full-time band again. However, lead singer Kele Okereke has hinted at the possibility that we won’t see them as a band again. Hopefully this isn’t the case, as their first three albums have shown that they have a very unique artistic and musical vision.

In the meantime, both their lead singer and lead guitarist have other projects they’re working on, so don’t be surprised to see Bloc Party members still operating in the music scene.

For those who don’t know, the Reading Festival has been around since 1961, and since then, it’s grown bigger every year. The Reading Festival has grown from a small Jazz concert to a weekend event that people wait the whole year to see. This year’s festival is taking place from Friday, August 27th to Sunday the 29th, and will be held at Little John’s Farm, Richfield Avenue, Reading, Berkshire.

This year’s line-up is headlined by Guns N’ Roses and Blink 182, and they’re supported by a host of artists, including Queens Of The Stone Age, Biffy Clyro, Lostprophets, Nofx, Gogol Bordello, Billy Talent, Dizzee Rascal, The Cribs, Modest Mouse, The Gaslight Anthem, Paramore, Weezer, Cypress Hill, Limp Bizkit, You Me At Six, All Time Low, LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, Delphic, Yeasayer, The Big Pink, Two Door Cinema Club, Pendulum, Enter Shikari, Crystal Castles, Frank Turner, Klaxons, We Are Scientists, Foals, Band Of Horses, Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), and The Drums.

But the appeal goes far deeper than just the bands present. The Reading Festival is one of the biggest musical festivals in the world, and it’s a completely unique experience. You’ll be surrounded by thousands of people; all brought together by their love of great music.

And the music is just the beginning: the Reading Festival 2010 is an all-weekend event. There’s a full campsite involved, where you and hundreds of other music fans can enjoy all of the other activities of the weekend. There are vendors, stores and other provisions, all geared to make sure that you have the best time possible. Bring friends and family, because this experience is one to be shared. It’s an all-out musical bonanza that you’ll never forget.

Reading Festival 2010 isn’t an adults-only party, and but it is geared specifically to adults. So don’t be afraid to let loose, plenty of people will be partying their hardest right there with you. The campsite is big enough for you to have your own space, and there are enough people that you’ll never be alone if you don’t want to be. There are activities all day long, and there party doesn’t stop until 3AM. That’s the Silent disco, which runs from 9PM to 3AM, and is there for all the party animals in England.

Whether you’re excited for the big event, or you just want to listen to some of the best bands in the world, Reading Festival 2010 has it all. There are quiet campsites and roudy ones, so you’re free to choose your own crowd. And the music is great. Nowhere else will all of these bands get together to display their creativity and skill, and Reading Festival 2010 is the place to be. Mark the dates on your calendar right now, because every Reading Festival is a different experience, and you won’t want to miss this one.
